The Blue and Yellow Columbine are starting to bloom. They have done well. It seems like the rabbits will snip one or two flowers off and realize that they don’t actually like to eat them – but we have enough plants now that it really doesn’t matter.

The city isn’t doing any spraying – which is good – but the slow start to the mowing season has meant that their strategy of weed control via frequent mowing has been pretty much a failure this year.

Our crocuses are all in the front yard (for now) and tend to get a later start than many other peoples’. We hear reports from all over of crocuses blooming weeks before ours. They may be a little late, but they make a great show, and this year I will distribute some seeds in the…

Some genuine signs of Spring 🙂

For years we’ve seen the pelicans visiting the retention ponds. I figured that they were getting frogs or something. It turns out that there are fish – and really big ones at that.

The deer have blockaded the forest path and are denying entry.

All the snow and Spring rains have resulted in high water everywhere in the neighbourhood. The forests have standing water everywhere and the retention ponds are overflowing.

The deer keep an eye on me, but are not particularly concerned with keeping their distance.

The junkos came back and then we got even more snow. They’re not too interested in the feeder, but they seemed to appreciate a few sunflower seeds scattered on the snow.
