Things I've Seen

Ok – the flax isn’t giant – I just took an extreme closeup. The spot that I originally planted the flax has been largely taken over by asters, but there are a few flax plants that seem to have found a spot that the rabbits haven’t noticed.

This is another plant that I hope to get growing in the yard. I think that there might just be a single spot where I’ve seen them growing in the forest over the past couple of years.

The Prickly Pear is doing great again. These flowers are short-lived but always so cheerful and beautiful.

The Gaillardia continue to plug along – even though they maybe have a less than optimal position – squeezed out a little by the expansion of the Potentilla.

I think I tried to grow these, but was unsuccessful. I have seen them in several places in the forest – but not in previous years. I think the massive amount of Spring water is changing the fortunes of some of the forest plants.

The roses in the forest are doing well this year. We have considered planting some variety of wild rose in the yard, but there seems to be pretty limited availability and some of the varieties seem to be described as “aggressive”. Maybe it is best to just enjoy them in the forest.

The mulch is getting processed into soil.

These are always cheerful and really low maintenance.

This is doing quite well, but needs to stay inside the cages for a while longer since it seems popular with the rabbits. We even have some trying to grow volunteer in the middle of our lawn!
